What this tool does
Compress PDF reduces the size of PDF files. It optimises the internal structure and recompresses the JPEG images inside, at a quality level you choose. You see the real size before and after — if a file cannot be made smaller, you get the original back unchanged.
Who it is for
Anyone who needs to email a document, upload it to a form with a size limit, or free up storage — especially scans and files with photos.
How to use it
- Add one or more PDF files.
- Choose a compression level. Recommended is a good balance.
- Press Compress PDF and download the smaller file(s).
About privacy
Compression happens entirely in your browser. Your files are not uploaded to a server.
Current limitations
Only JPEG images inside a PDF are recompressed (their quality can drop slightly); other image types, vector graphics and text are left as they are, so text-only PDFs often cannot get smaller — you then get the original back. Encrypted PDFs are not supported yet. Current (temporary) limits: up to 20 files, 100 MB each, 300 MB in total.
Is this the right tool?
A good fit when
- The PDF is large because it contains photos or scanned pages

- The PDF is mostly text, with few or no photos — it often cannot get smaller
- Image quality must stay exactly as it is
- The PDF is password-protected (encrypted)
